Skoke & Martin Insurance LTD: A Wawanesa Going the Extra Mile Award Recipient

“My dad gave me the best advice years ago when I was young and just starting to learn this business. He told me to value each and every client equally. If you treat the client who pays a $200 annual premium the same as the client who pays a $4,000 annual premium, you will not only be successful but respected and admired.”

Going the extra mile means caring for clients as if they are your family.

Skoke and Martin Insurance is a family business operated by Alexka Mason, started by her grandparents in 1969. Three years later, Alexka’s father took over, and he worked tirelessly to build a loyal clientele. In 1998, Alexka began working with her father, and over two decades they grew the business into its current success together.

Sadly, Alexka’s father passed away in 2021, but left behind a legacy of honesty and kindness. To many of his clients, he was more than a broker—he was a friend and confidant. Alexka continues to build on her father’s legacy by going above and beyond, such as making in-person visits to elderly clients and never leaving the office for the day with unanswered messages.

In 2022, in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona, the team at Skoke and Martin remained committed to providing exceptional service to their clients, helping them navigate through this challenging time. They met with clients regularly, spoke with adjusters and even helped clients find local contractors.

As one of Wawanesa’s “Going the Extra Mile” recipients, Skoke and Martin is directing its $10,000 donation to Pictou County Roots for Youth Society.
