Medallion Group Insurance by McFarlan Rowlands: A Wawanesa Going the Extra Mile Award Recipient

“Initially we planned for a $5,000 donation, but upon reflection, the number six has significance. First responders say ‘We've got your six’ to mean ‘We've got your back,’ and we wanted to show we’re behind them, too.”

Sarah Heiser
Director of Group Operations

Going the extra mile means giving back to our clients and the communities they serve.

Medallion, a division of McFarlan Rowlands Insurance Brokers, offers group insurance to over 10,000 first responders in Ontario. Recognizing underserved communities were facing an increased need for financial assistance at the beginning of the pandemic, the organization created the Medallion May 6K Community Giveaway in 2020 to honour first responder efforts to engage and educate the communities they serve.

Every year in May, Medallion allocates $6,000 to invest in projects that foster safe, inclusive, resilient communities. Any first responder serving in Ontario is eligible to apply for an initiative in their community requiring support. Donations have helped first responders support survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, feed hungry children in schools, maintain veteran gravesites and more.

As one of Wawanesa’s “Going the Extra Mile” recipients, Medallion is directing its $10,000 donation to Boots on the Ground, an organization that provides confidential, compassionate peer support to first responders across Ontario.
