Wawanesa Insurance is committed to providing a competitive array of employee benefits as part of our total compensation package. These benefits are designed to assist employees in creating a healthy work-life balance, as well as helping plan for retirement and enhancing personal financial security.
The following is a brief summary of the 2013 benefits Wawanesa provides to its full-time employees.
Medical, dental and other insurance - Security through insurance
Wawanesa has two Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Plans available to choose from: Kaiser Permanente and Aetna. Both plans include vision and chiropractic coverage. The premium for employee coverage is paid 100% by Wawanesa and family coverage is subsidized at 35%.
Aetna’s Freedom of Choice dental plan offers comprehensive DMO or PPO coverage. Wawanesa pays 100% of the employee's dental premiums and subsidizes 35% of family premiums.
Wawanesa also provides, at no cost to employees, Group Term Life Insurance (provided at 4 times your annual salary), Long Term Disability Insurance, and Long Term Care Insurance (base plan only). Buy-up options are available for the Long Term Care Insurance plan.
Pension and savings plans - Financial planning for the future
Wawanesa provides both a defined benefit pension plan and a 401(K) salary deferral plan. Both plans can help you plan for your future financial security. Contributions to the pension plan are paid entirely by the company and provide for normal retirement at age 65. Reduce your taxable income and save for retirement when you contribute to the 401(K) plan. Wawanesa will help you achieve your savings goals by providing an employer match.
Additionally, all employees participate in the annual Goal Achievement Plan (bonus program) and share in the financial success of Wawanesa.
Vacation, Holidays and Other time off – Quality time away from work
Vacation accrues at the rate of 2 weeks (10 work days) per year. Accrual increases to 3 weeks (15 work days) per year at 3 years of employment, 4 weeks at 10 years and 5 weeks at 20 years of employment.
Wawanesa recognizes 13 holidays annually, ten designated holidays and three floating holidays.
Sick leave accrues at the rate of 1 day for each whole calendar month of service completed and is available for use when an employee cannot work due to illness. Limited sick leave is also available to care for an ill child, spouse, registered domestic partner or parent.
Additional Benefits – Making work a little easier
A confidential Employee Assistance Program is available to assist employees experiencing personal, financial or legal problems. A Fitness Center/gym is located on site for employee use. Discount tickets are available for movie theatres and theme parks.
Wawanesa is conveniently located in Mission Valley, close to Qualcomm Stadium, and offers a business casual dress code.
