We take precautions to be safe at work, but how much of our careful attitude do we take
home with us? Accident statistics show that 90% of all fatalities occur outside the work
environment. Too many workers leave their safety mindedness hanging at the time clock
when they check out. |

Swimming:
- Never swim
alone.
- Supervise
children and non-swimmers in or near the
water.
- Non-swimmers
should not rely on flotation equipment.
- Always swim
parallel to the shore.
- Watch for
debris and sharp obects in the shallow
water.
- Know the
depth of the water before you dive.
- Snorkel or
scuba dive only after you are qualified,
and only with a buddy.
- Check out currents and undertow before swimming.
Sunbathing:
- Be aware that
excessive exposure to the sun's
ultraviolet rays ages the skin
considerably over time, and can result in
skin cancer.
- Apply a
sun-screen lotion before every exposure
to the sun, and re-apply it frequently.
Fireworks:
- Read and
follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- Keep
spectators well away from the firing
area.
- Do not
attempt to relight a firework. Dispose of
used fireworks in sand or water.
- Never allow
children to use fireworks except under
adult supervision.
- Never hold a
lighted fire cracker.
Safe
Home:
- Never leave
objects on stairways or in hallways.
- Make sure
mats and carpets will not slip.
- Replace
damaged or missing stair treads.
- Make sure
your ladders have no loose rungs or
cracks.
- Never overreach on a ladder or stand on the top
step of a ladder.
- Do not use
metal ladders when working near
electricity
Motorcycles:
- Be aware of
other vehicles around you and those
turning left in front of you.
- Refuse to
ride with any driver who has been
drinking. Wear protective head, foot and
eye equipment during every ride.
- be visible -
wear bright reflective clothing and make
sure your headlight is on and working.
- Slow down and
live.
- Take a safety
training course.
