Supplier Diversity Policy Statement

At Wawanesa, we strive to develop and maintain positive, lasting relationships in the communities where we work and live. As part of this commitment, we seek to provide equal opportunities to everyone. In dealing with our suppliers, this means encouraging the participation of all businesses in the procurement process, including those owned by minorities, women, persons with disabilities, veterans, disabled veterans, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) persons. Our hope is that partnering with these diverse groups will help them to succeed, while fostering an environment of equality and fair competition in the marketplace. At the same time, these partnerships are valuable to Wawanesa, helping us to continue to expand our diverse network of relationships.

Supplier Diversity Program

The goal of Wawanesa’s Supplier Diversity Program is to attract and support the participation of minority, women, LGBT, veteran, disabled veteran, and disability-owned businesses in the procurement process, through outreach and communication to these groups.

Any minority, women, LGBT, veteran, disabled veteran, or disability-owned business interested in doing business with Wawanesa is encouraged to submit the Wawanesa Supplier Diversity Application to Wawanesa's Supplier Diversity Office, together with a copy of its business certification from a qualified agency.

Wawanesa recognizes minority, women, LGBT, veteran, disabled veteran, and disability-owned business enterprises, defined as follows:

“Minority business enterprise” means a business enterprise, physically located in the United States or its trust territories, that is at least 51 percent owned by a minority group or groups, or, in the case of any publicly owned business, at least 51 percent of the stock of which is owned by one or more minority groups, and whose management and daily business operations are controlled by one or more of those individuals. “Minority” includes African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, and Asian Pacific Americans.

“Women business enterprise” means a business enterprise physically located in the United States or its trust territories, that is at least 51 percent owned by a woman or women, or, in the case of any publicly owned business at least 51 percent of the stock of which is owned by one or more women, and whose management and daily business operations are controlled by one or more of those individuals.

“LGBT business enterprise” means a business enterprise that is 51 percent owned, managed, operated, and controlled by one or more lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) individuals, has been legally formed in the United States, and exercises independence from any non-LGBT business enterprise.

“Veteran business enterprise” means a business enterprise physically located in the United States or its trust territories that is at least 51 percent owned by one or more veteran groups or, in the case of a publicly owned business, at least 51 percent of the stock of which is owned by one or more veteran groups, and whose management and daily business operations are controlled by one or more of those individuals.

“Disabled veteran business enterprise” has the same meaning as defined in subparagraph (A) of paragraph (7) of subdivision (b) of Section 999 of the Military and Veterans Code, or any successor provision. Disabled veteran business enterprise certification eligibility requirements shall be consistent with those imposed by the Department of General Services, and this section applies only to those disabled veteran business enterprises certified by the Department of General Services.

“Disability-owned business enterprise” means a business enterprise physically located in the United States or its trust territories, that is at least 51 percent owned by a person or persons with a disability or, in the case of a publicly owned business, at least 51 percent of the stock of which is owned by one or more persons with a disability, and whose management and daily business operations are controlled by one or more of those individuals.

Our Supplier Diversity Office will review all completed applications and keep them on file for future consideration. If the Supplier Diversity Office accepts your application, it will be entered into a database and you will be notified accordingly. Please be aware that submission of an application and certification of eligibility does not guarantee a contract with Wawanesa.

What if I submit my application and certificate, but there are no opportunities available?
When your application and certificate are received, your information will be added to our potential vendor and supplier database for future consideration.
What if there is a change of ownership or business classification that affects my eligibility for the Supplier Diversity Program?
A change of business ownership or business classification that affects the eligibility for the Wawanesa Supplier Diversity Program must be reported to the Supplier Diversity Office. If the change involves the type of certification or certification organization, a copy of the current certificate from the new certifying organization will be required.

This Supplier Code of Conduct outlines the minimum standards expected from suppliers (including their affiliated entities, representatives, employees, and subcontractors) who provide goods and services to, or on behalf of, Wawanesa (including our policyholders, members, agents, and brokers).
