Car
Check-up:
- Check brakes,
steering, safety harness, headlights
(high and low beam), taillights and
license lights, directional signals,
windshield wipers and washers, wheel
alignment, tire wear, tire pressure,
exhaust system, hydraulic system, oil
level, lubrication and battery.
Toy Vehicles:
- Never let youngsters hitch a wagon to a bicycle.
- Match the size of the child to the size of the tricycle.
- Advise children to keep hands and feet away from tricycle wheel spokes.
- Don't let children ride tricycles down steep hills.
- Show children how to use riding push toys properly.
Bycycles:
- Go slowly over loose or slippery surfaces.
- Watch for cars that may turn left in front of you.
- Stay on the right edge of traffic flow, but safely away from the curb.
- Use a bicycle that fits your size, build and style of riding.
- Obey all traffic laws and controls.
- Wear a bicycle helmet.
- Wear reflective clothing both at night and in the daytime.
- Don't use bicycle carrier seats with young children.
Jogging:
- Don't jog on a public street while using a radio headset.
- Jog in parks and fields instead of on roads and sidewalks.
- Wear reflective clothing when jogging, day or night.
- If you must use the roadway, obey all traffic controls and rules of the road.
- Warm up; muscles are susceptible to strain if cold.
Kites:
- Choose a safe flying site. It should be a level, open space away from such overhead obstructions as telephone and electrical wires.
- Leave any entangled kites. It's better to lose a kite than to risk your life climbing an unsafe structure.
- Ensure that the kite string doesn't contain any metallic fibers, tinsel or wires that can conduct electricity.
- Take extra
care when mowing on sloping ground - you
have less control.
- Never refuel
your power mower when the engine is hot.
- Control
electrical equipment cords.
- Make sure
outdoor electrical equipment is properly
grounded or double insulated.
- Keep children
and toes away while you are mowing or
trimming.
- When lifting,
bend your knees and use your leg muscles.
